Dropped by Manila Zoo, a tiny zoo about 15 minutes’ drive from Makati CBD last Saturday. Entrance fee is a lot cheaper than Singapore Zoological Gardens (40 pesos, or about S$1.30), but understandably so, as the scale and facilities are also less impressive. In fact, some of the animals looked like they were pretty uncomfortable in captivity. The cages/enclosures were small, and sanitary conditions were dismal. Somehow, the situation is far worse than how it looked like in these pictures.
Suggested to a colleague that they should adopt Singapore’s approach by having sponsorships for the animals. Heard that there’s a nicer zoo about an hour or so away. Probably will pay a visit and compare.
