Monopoly, the best selling board game from Hasbro, is getting a modern – some might say, mercernary – makeover. Instead of the classic pewter tokens, the new edition, called “Monopoly: Here & Now“, uses a Toyota Prius, a New Balance sneaker, McDonald’s French Fries, a Motorola RAZR, and a Starbucks coffee mug as game pieces. Only three tokens are generic: a laptop computer, an airplane, and a Labradoodle. The U.S. version also replaces Atlantic City landmarks with legendary U.S. streets, neighborhoods and national monuments. No Twin Towers, of course.
