A 12-person jury in Duluth, Minnesota has found a Minneapolis woman named Jammie Thomas liable for piracy and ordered her to pay US$222,000 to six music companies for illegally downloading and sharing copyrighted music over a peer-to-peer network. The six music companies – Capitol Records, Sony BMG, Arista Records LLC, Interscope Records, UMG Recordings Inc., and Warner Bros. Records Inc. – claimed that Thomas had illegally shared a total of 1,702 songs over Kazaa, but they chose to focus their suit on a representative list of 24 songs. This means that Thomas had to pay US$9,250 for each of the infringed songs – an amount that doesn’t seem to befit the crime, considering the going rate for downloading a song from iTunes Store is just 99 cents.

The RIAA is Coming Out of the Heart and attacking Somebody who’s been Faithfully buying their music and as far as the evidence showed has One Honest Heart. These RIAA folks have been Building a Mystery and arguing about songs that weren’t under their Possession, going Cryin’ out their Iris to the judge and jury with a Basket Case. They Don’t Stop Believing that their argument is Hella Good. So Let’s Wait Awhile and Save the Best for Last when the artists agree that these mentally Different People have obviously been drinking Bathwater, pushing for $220,000 in Bills, Bills, Bills over songs whose Rhythm is Gonna Get You.
