Death's End

Death’s End is a gripping wrap-up to The Three-Body Problem trilogy.

My only frustration is with the characterisation of Cheng Xin. who is extremely unlikable. Naïve or overly idealistic, particularly in the context of the harsh realities of the universe depicted in the series, Cheng Xin’s decisions (and indecisions) lead to significant negative consequences for humanity.

Her idealism and the faith placed in her by others in the story do not align with the realistic expectations of leadership in the desperate situations faced by humanity in the book.

As such, she serves more as a narrative device to move the plot forward rather than a fully fleshed-out character, which explains her seemingly arbitrary decision-making and the plot’s reliance on her actions to create conflict and resolution.
