Humanitarian aid for Leyte landslide victims

By | February 20, 2006

By now you would have heard about the landslide at Southern Leyte where hundreds of people were feared dead and thousands more were missing. If you are residing in Metro Manila, you can help the victims and evacuees by donating blankets, mats, clothes, bags, toys, medicines, rice, food and other goods you find useful through the Visayan Forum Foundation, Inc., a non-stock, non-profit organization established in 1991 working for the welfare of marginalized migrants, especially those working in the invisible and informal sectors, like domestic workers and trafficked women and children.

The dropping point for donated items is at: 4th Floor, RFM Corporate Center, Pioneer cor. Sheridan Streets (near Boni MRT Station), Mandaluyong City. This is open from Monday to Friday from 8am to 6pm.

But please do not treat this as a dumping ground for useless items, the way some Singaporeans did during the Tsunami donation drive.

If you are unsure what to donate, give cash. You may course your cash donations through bank transfer to the following account:
Visayan Forum Foundation, Inc.
Bank of Commerce-Sta. Ana Branch
Pedro Gil cor. Embarcadero Sts., Sta. Ana, Manila
Account # 031-00-000432-7

For those who would like to make contributions personally, designated staff will be around at the VFF office to properly account for your donations.

as a singaporean myself, i’m ashamed to read about the dumping incident. has our prosperity made us insensitive to the sufferings of others?
